This is a small oblong lake with emerald green water. It is at an altitude of 5230 mts., near Kankul Pass (5230 mts.), and is almost a kilometer in length. Myriad blossoms decorate its banks during the season, a wildest profusion of colours make the trekker forget the hardships and the exhaustion of the trek.
Set in the lap of Hathi Parvat (6730 mts.), the lake can be approached either from Bhiundhar village, near Ghangria, or from Vishnu Prayag. The trek from the former is a little easier in gradient, but is longer. The trek from Bhiundhar passes through thick bear-infested, forests and stretches of stinging nettles. The only shelters here are the shepherd huts. This trek also involves walking long distances across glacial moraines and over slippery rocks.
The legend-
Two huge rocks on a spur of Hathi Parvat are described as a crow (Kaga) and an Eagle (Garuda). The locals believe that the crow is animatedly conversing with Garuda on the affairs of the universe. Another version has it that a learned Brahmin of Ayodhya once incurred the wrath of the sage Lomas who lived here and was changed into the form of crow by the sage.

The trip looks like this in detail:

Srinagar-Srinagar-Gulmarg-Pahalgaum-Sonmarg-Srinagar

Day 1: Srinagar [20th May]

This is the day that we arrive to Srinagar , either by road (drive from Jammu) or fly in from Delhi. We will be staying in houseboats on the Dal Lake-so at the Dal Lake, we get rowed accross in Shikara to our houseboat. Post lunch, a shikara ride around the lake will take us to floating gardens, lotus garden and Kabootar Khana, which now is a structure that houses pigeons, was the summer palace for the Maharani for years-as during summer many flowers would float around the island. Very close by is the Char Chinaar, another isolated island which has 4 chinaar trees (which are otherwise found only in Eastern Himalayas). The houseboat and Shikara community have exhisted for hundreds od years and they are a self contained community. They have their own post office, doctors, tailors, carpenters-all in their floating avatars.
After some retail therapy of kashmiri handicrafts, we can head back fr dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 2: Srinagar [21ST May]

This day is kept to explore the city of Srinagar. Beautiful gardens are tourist magnets, but we plan to visit them today. Mughal gardens, Nishat Garden, Shalimar Bagh. Explore the markets of the city, lunch in its famous eateries. Also a trip to the famous mosques intricately carved and layered with wood and stone –is on our agenda for the day. Naqashband Sahib, Jama Masjid and Kanquah. On our way back to the houseboat, a stop over at a carpet weaving factory to see the world famous kashmiri carpets being made.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner

Day 3: Srinagar –Gulmarg [22nd May]

Dist: 96 kms

Travel time: 2 hrs

Altitude: 8825 ft/2730m

Attractions: Gondola rides or rides in cable cars (the second highest cable car ride in the world), explorations around meadows

Gulmarg , called the ‘valley of flowers’, is located in the Baramullah district. Famous for its adventurous side, its is the premier winter sports capital of the country. It’s a small town that has only 1 road looping around the whole place. So a walk around the place is the best way to get a feel of the town. Head out for a gondola ride to stage 1(10500 ft) or stage 2(13400 ft)-as per your apetite. The views from such heights are awe inspiring.

Head out for a trek to khilanmarg or a pony ride up there will be worth the view. It s 4kms uphill of Gulmarg.
Walk around the rest of the day explore the bazaars, enjoy your cuppas of kahwa. Dinner at the hotel.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 4: Gulmarg-Pahalgam [23rd May]

Dist: 156kms

Travel time: 3 hrs

Altitude: 7200 ft( 2740m)

Attractions: Lidder river, pine forests, snow clad mountains, vast meadows and pastures, betaab valley

The shepherd’s village, Pahalgam is located on the banks of the Lidder river, in the Amantag district of Kashmir. The river is a constant companion during your stay in this beautiful town. Enroute we will be exploring the ruins of the Awantipura temple and saffron fields flank the way throughout.
Settle into our cosy homestay and head out to explore the magic of this little town. A walk around Pahalgam is the best way to get a feel of the place.
A pony ride will take you to Baisaran valley which offers fabulous views of the valley. We cn pack a small picnic and head there. Enroute pass by the traditional houses of the nomads of the regions-the gujjars at Dabiyan. An exploration to the lesser known but far more magnificent Aru Valley is on the cards. A taxi ride to the place and a pony to explore the area around.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 5: Pahalgam-Sonamarg [24th May]

Altitude: 3000m above sea level

Attractions: Tajiwas glacier, meadows and walks.

‘ Sonmarg’ translates to Valley of Gold. And you realize that it lives up to its name, when you enter the countryside-surrounded by meadows with a backdrop of mountains and the river Sindh nullah being a constant companion. Sheer panaromic beauty . Things that we are going to explore are:

-Ruins of Narang temple enroute

-Thajiwas glacier –a pony ride up or a trek and come sledging down in wooden sleighs

-Local trails

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 6: Srinagar-Sonamarg [25th May]

After some morning trails, riverside explorations, we head back to Srinagar. The day is at leisure, to indulge in some more retail therapy

Ladakh & Kashmir have few peers for its sheer awe inspiring physical beauty and added to this the cultural richness and the warmth of the people makes it a truly amazing and memorable journey.

Our Incredible journey starts in Leh where we acclimatize to the high altitude on the first day by resting and taking walks around the town and market place. On the second day the adventure starts with a monastic tour of some of the important monasteries of the region including Hemis, the largest in Ladakh.
